Music

Jess McAllister band

The music of Exeter based Jess McAllister spans from free-spirited, nostalgic folk, through to rhythmic, gutsy blues, rock and pop. Switching effortlessly on stage between electric guitar, banjo and piano, she blends her honey dipped vocals and her craft of song writing with live performances filled with spontaneity, passion and pure heart.

Jess has toured all over the UK, Ireland and Germany, and has performed in major festivals such as Glastonbury, Meadows in the Mountains (Bulgaria), Boomtown and Beautiful Days. She has also taken part in sessions such as ‘Under the Apple Tree’, which is filmed in Bob Harris’s back garden. (apparently, he was lovely). This Summer Jess and her band have played some of the biggest stages of Jess’s career, at festivals including Jurassic Fields, Sidmouth Fringe Festival and opening the mainstage at Gone Wild Festival.

Adam Sweet

Independent guitarist and singer-songwriter Adam Sweet has marked his evolution into a fully-fledged blues-rock artist with the release of his latest studio album ‘Sink or Swim’. With brooding ballads and rollicking rootsy rock he delivers honest tales of loss, longing, hope and strength in the face of adversity.

Taking his cue from the British blues boom sounds of Free and early Fleetwood Mac, married to the driving guitar style of Rory Gallagher and the sweet sounds of Little Feat and the Allman Brothers, Adam has spent the last decade carving out his own territory between classic rock, blues and Americana. Working in various guises: solo acoustic, session player and with his own band he has developed the consummate ability to switch from sensitive singer-songwriter to full-on blues rocker with ease, as demonstrated in his countless live performances and his output as a recording artist.

Silent Disco

We are bringing our librarian DJs back to the stage to bring you an eclectic mix of tunes all evening.

Workshops

DAISI Art Workshop with Cara Roxanne

Drop by and create fantastical creatures which can be projected and animated with Daisi artist Cara Roxanne . Cara Roxanne is an artist whose work ‘[is] a celebration of human nature, reflecting inner and outer landscapes. Opening a door to mysterious figures, creatures and dreamscapes. A voyage across the oceans of image to deepen my understanding of the world, consciousness and what swims below the deep murky depths. Dreams, myth, folklore, animals (of all shapes and sizes), handicrafts & wild flowers are constant sources of inspiration.’

We are looking forward to welcoming her into the children’s library for an engaging workshop.

Zine Workshop

We Are Zine Makers! Join us for fun and friendly zine making activities throughout the evening. A zine (pronounced zeen) is a DIY booklet, often created by cutting out and glueing text and image together before photocopying to share. Using lo-fi cut & paste techniques, we'll make easy fold zines before photocopying to share. All welcome, drop in/drop out throughout the evening. Organised by Exeter College Community Learning.

Fablab Workshops

Do come into the FabLab which is our Digital Makerspace - the first makerspace in any UK Public Library!
