Jo was winner of Zakiya McKenzie's masterclass 'Nature and Uncertainty' with ‘Child of the Earth’

"I am inspired by the natural world, and use this as a source of inspiration for artistic creations and writing. I think nature is a solace for many of us from the anxiety of modern life which is what attracted me to the ‘nature and uncertainty’ writing competition. My poem focuses on how the consolation we receive from nature is much like the relationship of a mother and child and how the unstoppable march of industrialisation slowly degrade it and numb us to its beauty. I have previously worked on children’s books about rock pool creatures to raise money for marine charities. In the future, I hope to write a fiction book with nature at the forefront."
