Commission and Requirements
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced artist/s to find inspiration in libraries by engaging with library teams, library resources, and with new and existing library customers, and community groups. We ask that the artist/s enhance our existing library programmes, influence new directions using their professional expertise and leave a legacy of collaborative work that celebrates uniqueness and connections between the four host libraries and their communities.
The successful artist/s will have:
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality creative projects;
- Experience of working in libraries or similar community settings;
- Evidence of socially engaged, reflective arts practice (any artform);
- Flexible and collaborative approach to working with diverse groups;
- Evidence of up to date DBS check and public liability insurance.

Evolve
Creative Communities, formerly known as Evolve, is an imaginative programme of events and artworks within Devon and Torbay’s libraries, delivered by Libraries Unlimited, in partnership with artists and communities and funded by Arts Council England and Exeter City Council.
Our programmes encourage residents and visitors to come together and share in creative activities, discover new talents and enjoy theatre, talks and musical performances within their local library.
We know diversity fosters creativity and innovation. We are committed to equality of opportunity, to being fair and inclusive, and to creating spaces and events where all belong. We therefore particularly encourage applications from artists and creatives who are likely to be underrepresented in our communities, and/or from those whose work specifically seeks to engage audiences from underserved communities.
