Allegra Galvin is a textile artist. She spent her early life in California surrounded by treasured quilts in her family’s home. After moving to the UK, she studied History of Art and gained a Masters in Architecture. In 2023, Allegra created Wildwood Studio in South Devon. Her work as a textile artist blends traditional American patchwork motifs with her passion for naturally dyed fabrics, creating a restricted and unique colour palette, drawn from plants that she grows around Wildwood Studio. She is interested in the potential of fabric that might otherwise be discarded and the power of natural fibres and plants to comfort us and to create more liveable environments.
Her passion for textiles developed alongside her two decades as a producer and curator working with venues and artists across the UK and culminating in her role as Head of Strategic Projects for Culture in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. She guest lectures in the Textiles Department at Arts University Plymouth and on the MA in Curation at Exeter University.
Allegra worked with the four Torbay Libraries in 2024 to deliver Social Fabric, a community quilting and storytelling project.
