Peter has provided visual art workshops for thirty years, working with people in schools, libraries, youth centres, galleries, museums, and nature reserves. These have included one-day events, twilight sessions and longer term sculpture projects.
The workshops give participants the opportunity to work with a wide range of materials and resources, plus acquire new practical skills and create three-dimensional artworks which they are able to retain.
Peter appreciates the value of using visual arts to engage with people of all age-groups and abilities, and to give them opportunities to explore new and challenging ways of working as individuals, raise self- esteem, plus share ideas and resources by working collectively in groups.
The sculpture workshops involve participants in creating artworks from a wide selection of recycled materials, household waste objects, and ‘found’ natural materials. The artworks often include moving parts plus sound and musical features, which then enable participants to create a celebration or performance at the end of a workshop session.
The artworks have also been used as props and backdrops for drama and dance productions, plus outdoor events to be viewed by a wider audience, including Tree Dressing, Apple Day, Wassailing and community plays.
My professional studio practice involves using `found materials`- wood, stone, soil, and plastic beach waste to create temporary sculptures as a response to a particular outdoor location. The sculptures are recorded with photographs and film.
