Join this supportive three-hour workshop on writing your first novel with award-winning author Kim Sherwood. Together, we will break the novel down into separate parts – characters, plot and story, point of view and voice – and experiment with new approaches you might try to start writing, and keep writing. You will have the chance to share ideas and get feedback on your work. All writers of any experience are welcome.

Kim Sherwood began researching and writing Testament, her debut novel, after her grandfather, the actor George Baker, passed away and her grandmother began to talk about her experiences as a Holocaust Survivor for the first time. Testament won the 2016 Bath Novel Award, was longlisted for the 2019 Desmond Elliot Prize, shortlisted for the 2019 Author’s Club Best First Novel Award, and won the Harper’s Bazaar Book of the Year 2019. Kim studied Creative Writing at UEA and is now Senior Lecturer at the University of the West of England.

Kim is currently writer in residence at Exeter Library, as part of Evolve.

Tickets are bookable from the library or via ExeterLibrary.eventbrite.co.uk with a booking fee.
