James Carr, a dynamic and passionate percussionist and drummer, has immersed himself in the world of rhythm with an ardent focus on community music. With a musical journey spanning over two decades, James has honed his drumming expertise, with a particular focus on the rich tapestries of West African and Latin rhythms. This fascination led him to study rhythms with renowned artists in Ghana, Spain, Portugal, Bristol, Brighton, and Devon, shaping a unique and versatile repertoire.

James channels his musical knowledge to bring diverse communities together, transcending age barriers through uplifting and inclusive drumming workshops. As the director of Drum Devon, he orchestrates captivating world rhythms music workshops across a spectrum of environments, from community groups and schools to youth centres and therapeutic spaces within the NHS and the Devon Recovery Learning Community. Drum Devon has grown into a vibrant society of percussive arts in Devon, igniting creativity through interactive workshops, captivating performances, and events that foster community bonds.

With an extensive educational foundation spanning over 20 years, James holds comprehensive teaching qualifications, allowing him to seamlessly fuse his percussion passion with pedagogical expertise. As a dedicated educator, he has inspired numerous students to embark on a rhythmic journey, instilling a profound appreciation for cultural diversity through the universal language of drumming.
